What Is a Media Kit? And Why You Need One as Blogger or Influencer

One of the best ways to get noticed as a blogger or influencer is through the creation of a media kit. This can be used by brands and companies to see if you're the right fit for an endorsement or partnership. By creating a media kit, you'll give them all the information they need to decide whether you are or not! In this post, we'll cover what a media kit is, why it's important for bloggers, how to create one yourself (no design knowledge required!), and more!

What is a media kit?

A media kit is a collection of your best work, information about you, and contact details that you can share with potential brands or clients. It’s a great way to show off your work and personality as an influencer, blogger, or social media guru.

A media kit should include:

  • Your bio – who are you? What do you do? Who do you help? Why do people trust you? How did they find out about your brand/services/products?

  • Your services – what kind of services can people hire from them (e-newsletters, courses & workshops)? How much does it cost per month/year/etc.? And how often do they offer those services?

  • A few examples of previous client work – this part may be optional depending on whether any reputable companies are willing to share their experience with yours. Still, if possible, it will add credibility to everything else included in the package (especially if these companies have been featured in Forbes magazine).

Why do you need a media kit?

To put it simply, a media kit is a tool to help you pitch yourself as an influencer. A media kit can also build your personal brand and get more work as an influencer.

It's important to note that you don't need a fancy, professionally made, and expensive media kit for your business to succeed. You can make one yourself using Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or Canva if that's all available to you at the time. The most important thing is simply having some sort of document that helps others understand who you are as a professional: what kind of work you do? How much experience do you have? What makes me qualified enough (or not qualified enough) for this job?

What information should you include in your media kit?

A media kit is a set of all the information you can provide to a potential sponsor or collaborator. You should include:

  • Contact information (name, email address)

  • Social media links (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook)

  • Additional info about you and your blog (a short bio) The best way to do this is by adding an About page on your website! It'll also be helpful if you include links to some of your most popular blog posts. Be sure to put these in order of popularity—that way sponsors can see what sort of content resonates with readers the most.

  • Links to your social media profiles and email newsletter signup form

How to create a media kit if you're not a designer.

If you're not a designer, plenty of templates are available to help you create your own media kit. You can find free ones online or pay for them if necessary.

I recommend using a brand pitch template, as it will automatically include all the important information in your media kit and can be customized to fit the color scheme of your blog or website.

It’s also important to remember that while some templates are more stylish than others, they have one thing in common: they all need to be easy on the eyes and reflect who you are as an influencer (or blogger).

Create branded digital and PDF versions of your Media Kit.

Create a branded digital version of your Media Kit. If you have an email list, send it to them directly or link it to your website. This can also be a great way to create unique content that is exclusive to subscribers only. Create a branded PDF version of your Media Kit. Make sure you use the same branding, colors, and logo as those on your website so everything matches together seamlessly. Make sure the media kit is easy to read (this includes using font sizes in line with industry standards), and navigate and understand at first glance so readers don’t have to go through multiple pages before finding what they are looking for (use headings at least once per page).

Conclusion

At the end of the day, your media kit is all about you. It’s your chance to share who you are and what makes you unique as an influencer. Make sure that when you create it it reflects who you are, and don’t be afraid to mix in some personality!
